Epik Burger – Sadly, Closed on Sundays

Situated in a little strip mall on Atlantic blvd. between Kernan and Hodges boulevard’s Epik burger offers something quite a bit outside the norm for the Jacksonville burger scene. Epik burger offers over 34 different burgers. They offer anything from the BBQ burger with BBQ sauce, coleslaw and onion rings to the Hawaiian locals burger topped with spam and a fried egg. Beyond beef you can have an Ahi tuna, all natural chicken or even gluten free options. The restaurant has a small fairly plain dining room and operates in the fast casual style where you walk up, place your order, and then your name is called when your food is ready. These guys really offer something unique

Food: On this trip I ordered the Greek burger-Feta cheese, kalamata olives, lettuce, tomato and olive oil mayo. You can’t have a burger without fries so I added some sweet potato fries to go with it. The Greek burger was delicious. The mild taste of the feta was complemented nicely by a strong but not overpowering olive flavor. The bun really made the burger with a slightly sweet flavor and softness pairing perfectly with the slightly salty and vinegary flavor of the kalamatas. This was a really great burger. The sweet potato fries were outstanding. They weren’t greasy at all and had a nice balance of sweet and salty. Lastly I tried the hand battered onion rings. As I waited for my food to be made I could actually see them hand dipping them in batter and then placing them in the fryer. These ended up being just okay in my opinion. They were slightly saltier than I would normally like and they were also really greasy. They didn’t have bad flavor and if I was really in an onion ring mood I might order them again; but, I’d really have to be in the right mood for them. In my experience with coming to epik burger they almost never do a bad burger. I’ve also heard great things about the chicken and ahi tuna sandwiches from everyone who’s tried them.

Service: The staff at the counter were very friendly and exceedingly patient with me as I took forever to read the menu entirely and make up my mind. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. If you’re in a burger mood and looking to take an adventure this is definitely a place you should come out and try. I’m looking forward to going back and trying the fries with chicken gravy or the 4 cheese fries with brie, feta, parmesan, and cheese sauce. Take a minute and check out all the burger and side options through the menu link we provided at the top of this review. It’s tough to do this place justice in just one trip since every burger is so different than what you’d find at your typical burger joint.
