This Week’s Worst Health Inspection Offenders

Each week, we intend to bring you a list of 5 restaurants with the largest number of health inspection violations.  Here is this week’s lineup of top offenders, whose violations included a lot of live insects in the kitchen, employees not washing their hands, and food stored at unsafe temperatures.

Inspection date: 5/12/2016

High Priority – Employee began working with food, handling clean equipment or utensils, or touching unwrapped single-service items without first washing hands. Employee came from outside put on gloves and started moving foods in walk in cooler, explained to employee and he washed hands **Corrected On-Site** **Warning**

Athens Cafe (6271 St Augustine Rd #7)

Inspection date: 5/9/2016

Total: 26 (High: 7, Intermediate: 7, Basic: 12)

High Priority – Evidence of mop/cleaning wastewater dumped onto ground. Employee stated that they dump old dirty mop water out back behind building on the ground, not in mop sink. Explained regulation regarding wastewater dumping. **Warning**

High Priority – Improper sewage disposal at floor drains in kitchen and/or food preparation area. Drain under dish machine not able to maintain flow of dirty water from dish machine. Causing dish machine to drain on floor and flows across the floor to another drain in kitchen approximately eight feet away. Dump station at dish machine has hose attached to it that drains directly on the floor. The dirty water then runs approximately five feet to the nearest floor drain. Observed employees walking through the water. Operator contacted plumber, drains were flushed and water from dish machine is properly draining into floor drain under dish machine.
