Tropical Smoothie Cafe – Giving Their Secret Menu A Try

As you may know, we have reviewed items at Tropical Smoothie Café before…and some of them were not our favorites.  You may or may not recall our take on their Unbeetable Berry Smoothie around this time last year.  Suffice it to say, we were not big fans.  It had way too much beet and not enough anything other than beet.

Anyway, Tropical Smoothie Café is at it again, coming up with new menu offerings and once again we were invited out to give one of their new smoothies a try.  This time, they asked us to try an item from their new “secret menu” – the Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie.  After my daunting experience with the beet smoothie, I was a little nervous.  But, I figured you can’t really go wrong with strawberries and lemonade, so I was happy to give it a try.  And it was really, really good!  Actually, it was surprisingly good.  The balance of strawberry and lemonade flavor was just right – not too sweet and not too tart.  And the consistency was perfect.  It was smooth and well-blended with no huge chunks of ice.  Overall, the Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie was great.  It had a light, refreshing taste to it and was a perfect summer treat.

While we were at Tropical Smoothie Café, we decided to try a couple of items from the kids’ menu as well.  I personally love smoothies and have found myself on a green smoothie kick on more than one occasion.  Smoothies are a great way to cram a lot of healthy fruits and veggies into one convenient package.  Plus, made the right way, smoothies can be super tasty and really refreshing on a hot day.  However, despite my best efforts my kids are still a little skeptical of smoothies.  But I am holding out hope that I might still be able to convert them into smoothie fans one day.  So whenever we go to a smoothie place, I try and find something that they might like to help in my quest.  The kids’ menu at Tropical Smoothie seemed like a good place to start and had some promising options.  We got a Chocolate Chimp Smoothie and an Awesome Orange Smoothie.  I was thrilled when I realized that we had stopped in during their smoothie happy hour (7am-9am) when all smoothies are 50% off.  Yay!  We ended up getting all three of our smoothies for just over $7.  What a deal!  Plus the service that we received at the location near Kernan and Atlantic was great.  It was friendly and efficient, which made our whole experience even better.

Both of the kids’ smoothies were delicious.  My kids slurped them down in a big hurry and were reluctant to share with me.  The Chocolate Chimp Smoothie had a yummy mix of banana and chocolate and a smooth creamy texture.  The Awesome Orange was also really good.  The orange juice, yogurt, and white chocolate combined together to make a light, creamy smoothie that tasted much like an orange creamsicle.  The kids were huge fans of this one, and I was too.

So, Tropical Smoothie Café made believers out of all of us today.  My kids loved their smoothies and can’t wait to go back and try others.  And even though I wasn’t a fan of the last smoothie I was invited out to try, I can definitely give this one a big thumbs-up!  So be sure to stop in at this location or any other location around town and ask for a Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie from the secret menu…it is a secret worth sharing.
